Lilly Singh Keeps Her Vision Board in Her Shower

[ad_1]

Unsurprisingly, Lilly Singh has a vision board. But in a bit of a spin on tradition, the actor, author, YouTube creator, TV host, and producer keeps it fastened to the outside of her glass shower looking in.

“I would like to say I’m the inventor of the Shower Vision Board,” Singh told MyDomaine in the cover story for their third digital issue, The Innovation Issue. “At the center of my vision board is ‘optimize everything.’”

Singh, who recently announced she’ll appear in the Disney+ series, “The Muppets Mayhem”, wanted to pivot from her previous aesthetic when she cultivated the Studio City home she shares with Scarbro, a 4 year-old Chi-poo mix.

“My first home was color, color, color, color, pink wall this, yellow accent that, et cetera. And, as I’ve gotten older, I’m like, ‘Ah, yes, this is a lot!’” In this space, she focused on a neutral color palette and plenty of windows for natural light, as well as a minimalist attitude that only left space for things that made her feel “safe, energized, and loved.”

Singh welcomes guests in the dining room, a space that fosters conversation. Bright blue custom chairs sit around a circular table, and they serve as the focal point for the neutral palette. Nearby, a geometric ping-pong table Singh calls her “pride and joy” converts into a billiards table, or even a flat-top table for dining.

Singh’s “favorite place in the house” is her office, where “all the brain babies come to life.” A gallery wall of her accomplishments, ranging from stories in the Hollywood Reporter to AdWeek, that showcase her many talents. Singh says she feels the “recipe to success” is in the room, which is filled with natural light.

“I have learned that I love work,” said Singh. “But I am better at work when it’s not every part of my existence. So I optimize my life, whether that’s building a team that’s right for me, or making my home life easier.”

But in the past, Singh has found her work/life balance to be a bit off. Now, she manages to keep that space sacred for her creativity. “My office is for work, the dining table is for eating, the living room is for family time, friend time, and the bedroom is for sleeping. It’s not for you to take your work into every space,” she said.

You’ll also find a home theater with plush seating, and a stocked snack bar. A rarely-used guest room also found a new purpose, converted into a gym. A big cocktail bar is located in the living room, where Singh estimates she spends most of her time. Floor-to-ceiling windows create a bright and comfortable space, as does the large sectional sofa facing the fireplace and TV.

“I grew up in a home — and I’m sure almost every Indian person can relate to this — where my parents had many forbidden rooms,” Singh shared. “I was always like, ‘This is a huge waste of space!’’ Now, she consciously works to give every space a purpose.

Looking forward, Singh has another goal in mind: creating a second office space on the hill in her backyard. With a short uphill commute, Singh plans to create another space that allows her to live her life in balance.

“It’s a steep hill, so [I’ll] probably be huffing and puffing,” Singh laughed. “I’d have to just just get into the mindset and be like, ‘I’m going to work and we’re doing the thing.’ That’s what it is. I want to feel like I’m going to work. I don’t want to feel like work is where I am all the time.”
