Arts and crafts have sky-rocketed back into popularity over recent years, with the pandemic no doubt playing a part. While many of us have been spending more time at home, we’ve had more opportunities to lean into traditional hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, and other fun crafting activities that unleash a bunch of creativity—even celebs like Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Garner have hopped on the crafting train.
To celebrate some of our favorite hobbies in honor of National Crafting Month, LawnStarter set out to discover the best U.S. cities for crafting in 2022, taking into account 11 indicators of an ideal “craft city”, from the amount of arts and craft supply stores per square mile to the number of local craft fairs and other events.
The study revealed that New Yorkers love to get their craft on, with the Big Apple coming in at number one. The city hosts an impressive number of crafting meet-ups as well as larger seasonal crafting events such as “Renegade“, taking place this year in Brooklyn on Dec. 3-4.
Over on the West Coast, San Francisco, California comes in at second place. With plenty of art and craft supply stores, lots of crafting meet-up groups and its own annual crafting week, S.F. is the place to be if you’re a fan of getting creative.
In third place is Miami, Florida. With the most arts and craft supply stores per square mile, there’s ample opportunity to pick up a new set of paints or a ball of yarn. Fourth place goes to Seattle, Washington, while Paterson, New Jersey rounds out the top five crafting cities in America.
To further celebrate National Craft Month this March, LawnStarter is hosting a Grass Arts Competition where winners will receive up to three free lawn mows up to the value of $100. Simply send photos of your coolest grass art project to email@example.com no later than midnight Central Time on Mar. 31 to be in with a chance of winning. Good luck!
