When it comes to exterior paint color, many people opt for a classic, neutral shade. All-white exteriors are favored by many — including HGTV’s Breegan Jane — while painting your exterior “greige” may help sell a home faster. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think outside the box, just as Martha Stewart does fairly often. And when it comes to home design and what looks good, she certainly knows a thing or two.

Taking to Instagram last week, Stewart gave a glimpse of her exterior while showing off the gorgeous peafowl that had made themselves at home on her roof. While spotting the spectacular birds perched on the roof may be unexpected, so is the exterior paint color that Stewart has opted for.

The grayish-green shade adds depth and richness to the exterior without being too overpowering. It’s a great shade if you’re looking to steer clear of white but also don’t want to go over to the dark side completely.

The shade is a similar to Glidden’s “Deep Ravine Green” paint, a hue that has taken customers by storm, according to the reviews on Walmart. “I am extremely pleased with using this High Endurance Plus paint. Each coat went on so smooth and coverage was spot on,” wrote one person in a review.

Another commented, “The coverage was great and the color is awesome! We only had to apply one coat!” And third said: “The best exterior paint I have ever used! It’s so good I recommended it to my son who is now painting his home with it. You won’t be disappointed! Great value!”

So why not consider taking inspiration from Stewart and opt for an unexpected exterior color this year?
