To say my posture has taken a beating since the beginning of the pandemic would be an understatement — and I know I’m not the only one. In fact, there’s even a name for it now: pandemic posture (this refers to poor posture from slouching at a desk, couch, or bed as a result of working from home). So I did what most of us have done over the last two years and created a dedicated workspace in my home, complete with everything from a monitor I could keep at eye level to a posture pillow to help keep me aligned. Unfortunately, I was still in pain, and deep down I knew why: my chair. While stylish and cozy, my office chair was anything but ergonomic. If I really wanted to get serious about my posture (and stop the consistent back and neck pain I was suffering from), I needed to find the perfect office chair — and boy did I! Let’s talk about the All33 BackStrong C1 Chair.

Let’s make one thing clear from the get-go — this is not your average office chair. Made with your back in mind, the All33 BackStrong C1 Chair is a state-of-the-art chair designed to give you the best posture possible. Created with the help of celebrity chiropractor Dr. Dennis Colonello, the idea behind it is simple: Keep all 33 of your vertebrae aligned and moving as you sit, and your posture will improve. But how does this work? Well, with a little something called  Sit in Motion® technology.

Where other chairs feature a stationary seat, this chair’s seat independently pivots to promote movement. “The difference is in the pivot because it frees your pelvis to move naturally, the way it does when you walk,” shares Dr. Colonello. “So in addition to improving your posture, the design of the chair gets you moving, which gets your blood flowing, which in turn boosts energy levels while engaging and effortlessly strengthening your core.” With claims like that (and sights of the chair all over my social media feeds), I had high hopes for this chair, and I knew I had to test it.

The All33 BackStrong C1 arrived in one large box and in five separate pieces; I assembled it in less than 10 minutes, and let me tell you, she is a beauty. I like furniture that’s simple and sleek with a little bit of a retro vibe, so the rounded lines and easy-tilt armrests were a chic plus. It’s also covered in vegan leather (I got it in black, but it’s also available in red and tan), which definitely adds to the luxe look. So it definitely passed the style test, but I still didn’t know if it lived up to the hype.

The first sit in this chair was different — good different. Not only did the lumbar support cradle my lower back, but I immediately noticed the effect of the pivoting seat. No matter how much I tried to slouch, I couldn’t! The pivoting seat would just tilt me back into place. I was instantly impressed and could already feel the pressure lessening on my lower back. But how would I feel in two months? Would its initial glow fade? Well, dear reader, I’m happy to report my feelings have only gotten better. I’ve noticed a tremendous decrease in lower back pain and even find myself sitting straighter in other chairs as a result. I still can’t believe it!

Okay, I know that the $799 price tag is a bit steep for some, but remember, this isn’t an accent chair we’re talking about. It’s an ergonomic office chair that can double as a health device. (All33 even offers a 60-day return policy, so you can see if it works for you.) Personally, when I take into account all of the doctor bills, chiropractor appointments, and pain management treatments I’ve invested in over the years, this chair is a no-brainer. After all, can you really put a price on good posture?
